Mock Employment Tribunal – Free to Owners, HR Professionals and Managers
Employers and HR advisers from across the North-West will be given the chance to witness exactly how an Employment Tribunal hearing works, providing a valuable insight into how the final decisions are made.
Staged by the Employment team of Pearson Solicitors, the innovative Mock Employment Tribunal - to be held on 12th November 2013 - will dramatically demonstrate the potential pitfalls for employers and their HR advisers when faced with Constructive Unfair Dismissal proceedings.
In order to make the half day event as realistic as possible, the Employment team have drafted in the help of an Employment Judge and a Barrister with considerable experience in the real-life Tribunal setting. Head of Employment, Susan Mayall, said: 'We have made every effort to create a realistic setting with the help of professionals with in-depth knowledge of how a Tribunal hearing operates, with witnesses giving evidence and being cross examined by a Barrister and employment lawyer, and finally having a Judge making a decision. Learning points will be provided at the end following a directed discussion on the reasons for that judicial decision."
Ms Mayall added: "In the lead-up to the day we will also be providing a background story to the case and access to the bundle of witness statements and evidence via a series of emails; without such elements it would be hard to fully appreciate the nuances of a case."
Two fully briefed members of staff will also play the roles of 'claimant' - the employee bringing the claim - and 'respondents' - the employer against whom the claim is brought.
Both parties have briefed their lawyers and are prepared to contest the matter before the Tribunal, the witnesses are ready to give evidence...
With Employment Tribunal hearings at record levels the possibility of employers having to defend themselves against such claims is a very real concern. Areas covered include, but are not limited to:
- de-mystify the Employment Tribunal process - the steps that should be taken to put you in the best position to successfully defend a claim;
- increase your awareness and understanding of how Tribunals work - witness the layout, giving evidence, cross examination ; and
- show you the role of the Judge and how they make their decisions.
