INSIGHT: Pearson Partner, Joanne Ormston, is Awarded Business Woman of the Year 2014
Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers’ first female partner, Joanne Ormston, was awarded Business Woman of the Year 2014 on Friday at the Oldham Business Awards at a packed dinner at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Joanne, 34, joined the Queen Street law firm in 2002 and became practice manager in 2004, she is a non-lawyer partner and the first non-fee earning partner ever appointed. With a background in chartered management accountancy and business management, Joanne has helped steer the Oldham Firm to success as Business of the year in 2013.
Well respected in her field Joanne was recently invited to speak at the Practice Management conference in London about the changing legal landscape and the opportunities for law firms outside the traditions of legal advice. She has also been invited by the Law Society to join the national steering committee for the Lexcel (Legal Excellence) accreditation to contribute to how the standard can progress to reflect the ever changing needs of the legal industry and practice management within that.
The Oldham Business Awards 2014 saw a record number of applicants and almost 500 people attended the gala dinner on Friday. Joanne beat off stiff competition from First Choice Homes and Team Spirit to win her award.
Commenting on her success Joanne said: "It is fantastic to see so many successful women in the Oldham business community and on behalf of Pearson's I feel honoured to have been chosen as Business Woman of the Year. It was good to see so many of our clients also having success on the night and proving that by working together we are making a difference and putting Oldham on the business map again.
" With all the changes we have seen in Oldham over the last decade I really believe that businesses can now take up the challenge and thrive in the developing community in which we all work."
