Oldham Solicitors go full on festive

  • Posted on

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – or so the festive song says - but for some people out there Christmas can be a challenge.

At Pearson, we have tried to rise to that challenge and had a year of helping the charities on our doorstep, as well as focusing on our Charity of the Year, Francis House Children’s Hospice.  This Christmas we have gone that extra mile and collected gifts and chocolate goodies for children who will be at the hospice this festive season.

Pearson Charity Work

As we approach the end of the year, we are thrilled to reflect on the incredible impact and successes achieved through our dedicated charitable efforts in 2023 and proud to share some of the highlights from this year.

“Over the past year, as well as helping our chosen charity, we have supported Mahdlo Youth Zone, Maggie’s Cancer Care, Dr Kershaw’s and Willow Wood Hospice as it’s important to all our staff that we take our corporate social responsibilities seriously at what is an especially difficult time for many charities,” said Carol Parker, of the Pearson marketing team.

“Hopefully, once our new office in Uppermill is up and running we’ll also, all be in the Santa Dash in 2024!!!”

We started early in the year with the Francis House Easter appeal and knitted woolly chick chocolate egg covers to help the hospice raise thousands of pounds.

Making a Will is a great thing to get organised whatever the time of year and if you can help out a charity at the same time what better way to get your affairs in order than by making a Will during one of the charity Will campaigns.

“Here our solicitors gave their time for free, and we simply asked clients to make a donation to the chosen charity.  This year, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, as well as our chosen charity have benefitted and we have helped to raise over £2,000 for them,” added Carol.

Patrons at Mahdlo Youth Zone

The Oldham firm renewed its Patronship with Mahdlo Youth Zone with Pamela Walsh from the firm’s Care team representing the firm. Mahdlo is a registered charity dedicated to young people in Oldham aged 8 to 19 years, and up to 25 for those with a disability, providing them with fun activities and a safe space to play, learn and develop.  The charity was further supported by Pamela in her year as Oldham Law Association President and a recent event raised over £1,000 for them.

The Care team have also gone a step further by collecting and donating clothing items which included winter woollies and personal care items for children at the centre, as well as dropping off a hamper of selection boxes for women and children at a local refuge.

As headline sponsors of the Maggie’s Annual Ball, Pearson were able to help the cancer care charity raise a mammoth £83,000 for the Oldham centre and more recently gave their time to advise employers on how to help staff and their families if they receive a cancer diagnosis.

Willow Wood Big Give

The firm also took part in Willow Wood’s Big Give campaign, which sees every donation made via The Big Give platform match-funded and Pearson were able to add £2,600 to the hospice campaign.

And finally, seeing the year out with a bang the firm went full-on festive for Francis House Children’s Hospice with a charity Christmas jumper and quiz day, adding £50 to the £20,000 already raised as part of their charity efforts for the children’s hospice. Santa sacks brimming with selection boxes and Christmas gifts were packed off for the youngsters who will be spending the time at the hospice over Christmas.

“And now as winter draws in and we get ready for Christmas, we are looking at staff suggestions for our charity of the year for 2024 and we are getting ready for a sponsored Winter Wander in January to clear the cobwebs and round off what has been a great year of giving for Francis House,” said Carol.

“We are looking forward to next year and excited about the possibilities and positive impact we can achieve in the year ahead.”
