Young apprentices embark on law degrees with Pearson Solicitors

  • Posted on

Two aspiring legal professionals have begun their journey toward becoming solicitors after securing solicitor apprenticeships with Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisers.

The apprentices, Ayla Hewitt and Milli Royston, will work full-time whilst studying towards a law degree and qualifying as solicitors through the Solicitor Apprenticeship route.

Solicitors Apprenticeships

This alternative pathway allows apprentices to earn while they learn. They will gain hands-on experience in various legal departments, from litigation and property, to corporate law and family, joining other young lawyers in the firm also pursuing apprenticeships.

“Both Milli and Ayla have been working with us in administrative roles and we are now delighted to support them on this next stage in their careers,” said Pearson Solicitors Director & Practice Manager, Joanne Ormston.

“The solicitor apprenticeship route is an essential part of our commitment to nurturing talent and these apprentices bring fresh perspectives, drive, and a real passion for the law.”

Commenting on the news, Ayla Hewitt said:

“The support from the team at Pearson has been amazing already. I’m excited to grow professionally, to balance work and study, and contribute meaningfully as part of a professional property department.  There is so much to learn on the job and it’s great to be part of a growing firm.”

Whilst Milli added:

“It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to study and train at the same time. I’ve always wanted to be a solicitor, and this apprenticeship allows me to gain real-world experience from day one, I’ve been working in personal injury and feel that I have already begun to gain an understanding of what clients need.”

What Ayla and Milli had to say about their apprenticeships

How did you get to this stage of yoru career?

Ayla: I studied sociology at university of Liverpool, worked throughout my education to gain experience (non-law related) and found this was valuable as skills are transferrable. I completed work experience at Pearson whilst completing my degree.

Milli: I did law at college, got work experience in the legal field, visited a Magistrates Court whilst I was at college to see how cases run in court and took part in virtual seminars about different legal pathways and options.

Why did you choose to study law?

Milli: I decided that it would be something that I would work well in and also enjoy whilst doing it.

Ayla: My degree at university covered a wide range of topics and overlapped with other areas including law.

What do you enjoy about the role?

Ayla: I am currently in the commercial property department which I am really enjoying. The apprenticeship gives you a great opportunity to experience different areas of law and make a decision, that’s what great about it.

Milli: The fact that each case is unique, speaking to different clients and understanding their situation. I am open to gain as much experience whilst I am learning and in the early stages of my career.

Why Pearson Solicitors?

Milli: Having a supportive workplace and team environment, as well as enjoying the work and it allowing me to work towards both personal and team goals.

Ayla: It’s a positive work environment at Pearson with a sense of community. The property team are also really friendly and supportive.

What advantages does the apprenticeship route offer?

Ayla: One study day a week whilst being employed and gaining a hands on approach is a great option.

Milli: Getting life experience yet still the same qualification. I can learn from my team around me, network with people and gain experience in the workplace practicing law rather than just learning content. Finally a big plus is that I don’t have debt paying for university.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

Milli: To be a qualified solicitor with strong expertise in the field I choose and having clients of my own.

Ayla: I hope to be a qualified solicitor, have my own house, to travel to new places and make memories.
