Lithium Poisoning
Compensation Awarded for Lithium Toxicity Case
We acted for a client after a series of errors which lead to the failure to recognise the danger of raised lithium levels. This resulted in him suffering chronic lithium toxicity and irreversible brain injuries.
Stephen, from Shaw, suffered significant neurological damage as a result of the failure to provide an appropriate level of care, which resulted in him being permanently confined to a wheelchair.
Specialist Medical Negligence Solicitor, Matthew Cox, said
A series of mismanaged hospital visits and a lack of testing, resulted in raised lithium levels being missed. Over time the lithium levels became toxic and led to a life-changing disability.
Stephen’s award compensated him for the cost of a lifetime of care and also for the cost of the adaptions he will have to make to the way he lives his life.
The claim was brought against his GP, the Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
